Tips for Exam Week

Tips for Exam Week

As you approach the end to another long and challenging semester, the worst part is yet to come, EXAM WEEK! The worst part of college, hell week, all-nighters and endless pages of hieroglyphics…..or, if you’re well prepared, this is your time to shine. Throughout the past three years I have found several techniques to help turn exam week from hell, to quite well.

  • Stay caught up throughout the semester
    • This one seems pretty simple, yet, a large majority of students feel exceptionally unprepared at exam time. Remember, staying caught up isn’t always about using tons of resources, but simply the right ones. A couple of my best study tools include:
      • Campus tutoring and Professor assistants
      • Study labs with help available
      • Classmates
      • Websites such as http://quizlet.com/
  • Your professor is your friend
    • This had made the difference of a letter grade several times for me. A couple weeks prior to your exam, take time to personally stop by your professors office to speak with them regarding your concerns about the exam, and what study habits/topics they might suggest.
  • Take care of your body
    • Too often basic health care goes down the tubes during exam periods. Lack of sleep and exercise, poor eating habits, and abuse of stimulants from caffeine to prescription drugs all take their toll. Even if you have to pack a lunch, remember to keep your eating habits healthy and regular. Ultimately, being well nourished and rested goes miles more than coffee and ADHD medicine.
    • Doing different types of physical activity has the ability to refresh ones mind and help get their brain back in thinking mode.

Good Luck Seahawks
