So you are new to UNCW and do not really know people yet. Well, you are in luck because today I have the opportunity to tell you about some wonderful way to meet new people. I will go over these ways in more detail, but for now this is the list:
- 1) Join a Club
- 2) Be vocal in class
- 3) Make a study group
- 4) Do not be afraid
So for starters, UNCW has a huge involvement fair at the beginning of the year. It is amazing because you will get to see all the awesome clubs there are. We have clubs the are sports related, we have religious clubs, and we have many other clubs as well. My first suggestion to you is to join a club as soon as they become available to sign up.
Next, being vocal in class. It seems lame, but it will help you out in many ways. First, most teachers have participation grades. Which I swear to you can be the difference between an "A" and a "B". But also being vocal in class gets others around you to pay attention to you. If you are vocal in class you will realize that people will come up to you and ask you questions. Even if you do not know the answer, you can start a new friendship right then and there.
Now being vocal in class will get you to start friendships, but it is easy to make those friendship stronger by starting a study group. Good lasting friendships are built of being different, but also having some common ground. In this case your common ground could be the class you and your new friend share together.
Lastly, and this is the most important one. DO NOT BE AFRAID. Other new students want to make friends just as badly as you do. So here is what is I suggest. Do not be afraid to go talk to people. 9 times out of 10 the other students will be very friendly and very willing to be your friend. So in the end just have some courage and go out and make friends!
