adjusting to being a transfer student

Usually it is harder for transfer students to adjust to a new school than it is for freshmen coming in. I know from personal experience how hard it is to transfer into a new school, especially one that is far away from home. Many people have trouble adjusting and finding friends. The harder it is for people to adjust the more home sick they get. There are many ways you can try to meet new friends:

1. Join a club sport. I joined club tennis after transferring to UNCW to try and meet new people. Joining a club team is a great way to make friends and get out of your dorm/apartment. There are many clubs teams besides tennis like soccer, baseball, track, surfing, etc. (http://uncw.edu/campusrec/competitive/clubs/index.html)

2. Join a club (other than a club sport) or organization. UNCW has many great clubs and organizations that will help keep you busy. You can even find clubs that relate to your major.

3. Joining a sorority or fraternity is also a great way to meet new people.

4. Get a job. Getting a job is a great way to stay busy. UNCW offers a lot of on campus jobs, such as being a tour guide, working in the book store, working for TAC, etc.

There are a lot of things that you can do to try and meet new people. Just always try to keep in mind to not be shy and make an effort to meet new people. Just try your best to stay busy. Also try to keep in mind your class load, do not try to get involved in too much if it is going to make your grades drop. The worst things is transferring to a new school and feeling alone.
